Breathing together, breathing against one another. The project stems from a simple yet radical intuition: breathing, our most fundamental and continuous action, is also a space of relationship. To breathe is a social act, a gesture that connects us, synchronizes bodies, and can also bring them out of sync. At a time when communication is increasingly mediated by digital devices and virtual environments, and when it is becoming more difficult for individuals to find ways of acting—or even existing—collectively, the simple act of breathing together takes on a profoundly political dimension: a way of overcoming growing isolation and recognizing ourselves as participants in a shared breath.

Corale del Soffio (Choir of Breath) is a participatory and performative project that explores breathing as a relational practice and as sonic material. Designed for a diverse group of participants—including people living with respiratory illnesses and other members of the public—the project develops, through an open laboratory process, a “breath choir”: a living texture of breaths, pauses, sighs, and shared silences.
Composed by Alessandro Bosetti, in dialogue with a specialist in body-based practices and deep-breathing techniques and with clarinetist Carol Robinson, Corale del Soffio redirects listening toward a dimension that often goes unnoticed: breath as gesture, as sound, and as a trace of another person’s presence.
